Start With a Simple Yoga Practice, Change Your Health
In honor of World Yoga Day being today, I thought I'd share a little about how practicing yoga has helped me reframe my mindset about my health.
I once considered myself someone who could not meditate, could hardly bear the thought of going to a yoga class, and I generally filled my schedule with endless to-dos to keep from having time alone with my thoughts.
It wasn't until I realized I had to start somewhere, that I began to change this.
I was so caught up in the outcome of perfection that I missed the many opportunities to begin.
So, instead of expecting myself to automatically be able to meditate with zero thoughts for large stretches of time, I turned the goal into something small.
Like taking a deep breath when I realize I'm feeling overwhelmed. Or admiring the beauty of nature around me. These little moments count!
And sure enough, within a few months I could tolerate much more than I had ever set out to. I actually enjoyed going to yoga classes and relaxing into savasana.
This mindset shift set me up for much better outcomes on my health journey, too.
I knew that the smallest of steps still mattered. I knew that I was capable of making change in my life. And, best of all, I had developed a deeper sense of mind body connection and awareness that I did not have before.
Most importantly, how you do yoga is all yours! You are worth the investment, friend.
