Healthy Highlights August

Healthy Habit

I've been spending a lot of time in the past month in the kitchen preparing fresh foods for my partner and myself. In our modern world filled with convenience foods, it can feel like a waste of time to spend more than 30 minutes a day cooking, but it really is essential to staying healthy. Fresh foods have more nutrients and often less histamine, and eating more fresh foods is a part of the solution to two things I see regularly in my practice: nutrient deficiencies and high histamine. A fresh meal here and there may not move the needle much, but committing to buying the freshest, local, organic foods and preparing them (or freezing them) promptly, definitely adds to your health bank over time!

Recipe

Tom Kha Soup. This took me about 3 hours to leisurely cut and prep everything for, but I easily got 10+ servings out of it, so it was well worth the upfront time investment! I've been very into soups recently because the flavors are incredible and let's face it, soup is a much better leftover than most dishes and I haven't been the best about cooking dinner every night this summer! It was a great meal to help me ease into cooking more fresh foods at home, as I mentioned above! Find the details for the recipe here. I doubled the meat, bone broth and coconut cream to have extra portions to freeze and consume later. As a bonus, I listened to the podcast I recommend below while I was preparing this soup!

Functional Test

The DUTCH test. This test gave me the first insight into PCOS and insulin resistance as a root cause for my weight loss struggle. If you struggle with persistent weight gain or struggle to lose weight, your hormones are likely out of balance. September is actually PCOS awareness month and I will be sharing more on this soon! The DUTCH test gives us insight into your levels of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone and if they are in balance relative to each other. It also looks at the relationship between cortisol and melatonin, neurotransmitters, oxidative stress, and digestive function. All of these markers can help us identify underlying imbalances related to weight gain or loss, mood, libido, skin issues, and poor sleep quality, among many other seemingly "random" symptoms you may be experiencing. They are all connected in some way or another!

Self Care

The CellCore Jumpstart Kit. This kit supports cellular health through targeted nutrient replenishment while gently opening drainage pathways. This means that your cells will have more energy to do their jobs, and hopefully that means you will have more energy too! It worked that way for me, anyway! The CellCore system focuses on foundational medicine, to give you the support you need at the cellular level so you can get back to feeling good again.

The Jumpstart Kit is comprised of four main products, but you can add more to this foundation based on your needs. Feel free to reach out to me for suggestions!

CT-Minerals: minerals that support cellular energy

BC-ATP: targeted mitochondrial energy support

KL Support: herbal blend to support the body's detox organs, kidneys and liver "KL"

BioToxin Binder: to mop up many of the toxins we are exposed to frequently in this day and age

Immune support add-ons: Drainage Activator and Cytoimmune paired with BC-ATP or the full jumpstart kit!

Podcast

Only listen to this podcast if you're ready to understand how the food industry, medical system and regulatory agencies have been failing Americans leading to our current chronic disease crisis. It contains a lot of cold hard truths that I think everyone should know, to make more informed decisions and take care of their health. Your health is your greatest asset, after all!

Book

Not a health or self improvement related book category this time around, because I have been relaxing! I recently finished Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand. It was a lovely story with a well developed plot and characters. If you've been stuck in an “always learning” mode, I encourage you to go pick up a fictional novel and break out of that need to always be productive. It helps your nervous system to settle in with an easy read!
