Cycle Magic: Align Your Life

Routines are the foundations of good health. What you do consistently shapes who you are!

So, I'm sharing my weekly routines as they change with my energy during the menstrual cycle! This will be a little bit different from the typical cycle syncing guides you may have seen as it reflects my personal experiences. If you aren't cycling, you can lean into the energy of the moon that all humans experience.

I started learning about living cyclically about two years ago, and it has truly transformed my energy and outlook on slow living. In our society, we're pushed to live on a man's schedule or embrace the full moon/ovulation energy all the time. That in itself will lead to burnout!

We are meant to rest and restore cyclically with the lunar cycle and the seasons. It is no coincidence that the female cycle is about the same length as the moon cycle!

Learning to live in tune with our natural cycles is a great way to build body intuition and connection.

Cycle Days 4-10: Slowly increasing and building energy. Creativity flows easily.

I plan to let these days flow where my creativity takes me, maybe that's making a new recipe or ideating a new project. I typically have a decreased appetite during these days, so I may eat dinner earlier and intermittent fast for ~16 hours, only if it feels good! I tend to wake up ~30 minutes to an hour earlier during this week naturally.

Cycle Days 11-16: Peak physical and social energy.

Group exercise classes, longer hikes with friends and social outings are planned during this week! Any high intensity exercise that I do will during the month will happen here. My skin looks best so if I'm going to take pictures, or speak at an event, it will probably be planned out. Also, if I'm going to try something new, it will probably be during this week!

Cycle Days 17-25: Task completion focus.

More gentle forms of movement. This is a restorative time that I focus on building strength through low intensity movements and eating more servings of complex carbs than I normally would. This helps keep my blood sugar balanced and my mood stable while keeping cravings at bay! As part of my task completion drive, I will actively plan to reset my house, go through closets and other monthly upkeep tasks during this time. It is a wonderful time to make a list and check things off (especially if your partner can help you, since physical energy is trending lower!)

Cycle Days 26-3: Physical rest, intention setting, reflecting on what went well and where I would like to spend my energy as it rises in the following week!

I try to clear my calendar completely during these days so that I can lean into what my body needs. If I feel like walking, I'll go for a walk, if I don't, no biggie. I love to go to yin yoga classes during this phase. I usually don't feel like talking to anyone during this week, so I make sure not to schedule any social events.

Notes:

Cycle day 1 = first day of period or day of new moon

Cycle day 14 = ovulation (could also be any day around 14) or day of full moon

Also keep in mind that every body has a unique rhythm, and yours might be shifted from mine!
